Billy Talent Helps Fight Multiple Sclerosis

Aaron Solowoniuk has been on tour in Europe for the last few weeks, his band, Billy Talent, has sold more than 600,000 copies of their first two albums and they’ve just celebrated 15 years of awesome togetherness.  All of this is great but there’s one more think you should know about Billy Talent’s drummer – he has multiple sclerosis.

Under Aaron’s direction, Billy Talent has waged war on MS through F.U.M.S.  He has been fighting the disease by taking three weekly injections.  Now Billy Talent is behind the MS Society of Canada’s Scholarship Program.  It provides post-secondary education support to young adults 25 and under with MS or those who have a parent living with the disease.  “My goal for this program,” he says, “is for young people to have the opportunity to follow their dreams, regardless of the presence of MS in their lives.”  Approximately 80 of these scholarships (worth almost $80,000) are available this year.  Read some of the winning essays or donate money at http://www.mssociety.ca/scholarship

On Friday, the Second Annual F.U.M.S. Open will be held at Lionhead in Mississauga.  The event, which is organized by Aaron’s brother and sister-in-law, is expected to raise at least $25,000.
