Eric Lapointe "1500 Miles" – Video

Being a native Quebecer, I can’t resist checking on the charts out there even though I live in Alberta now.  Eric Lapointe has a new song called “1500 Miles” and it’s doing pretty well (quel surprise, lol).
It’s from his current album Ma Peau (2008) and is basically a pretty standard song for him.  I really liked the theme song he made for the film Les Boys (the first one).  Remember those days?

Feist to Appear on Colbert Christmas Special

Feist to Appear on Colbert Christmas Special

Do you watch the Colbert Report at all?  I can’t help but be sadly addicted to it.  Sometimes I have to work late so I don’t get to see it but, whenever I do, it’s always hilarious.  I can only imagine what a Christmas special will be like on that show!
This year, the Comedy Central star has decided to invite Canadian singer, Feist, along with adopted Canadian Elvis Costello (who lives with his wife, Diana Krall in British Columbia), Toby Keith, John Legend and Willie Nelson.
The one-hour holiday special is scheduled to air on …read more

City and Colour "Sleeping Sickness" – Video

City and Colour "Sleeping Sickness" – Video

“Sleeping Sickness” by City and Colour is really, really good!  The band, based out of St. Catharines, Ontario is an acoustic project fronted by Dallas Green who you may recognize as the guitarist and sometimes lead singer of AlexisonFire.
I love how honest and raw this song is because it almost sounds like it’s not fully mixed but, for whatever reason, it totally works.  The single is from their current album Bring Me Your Love and there just aren’t enough songs on the charts like this anymore.  Even though it’s about emotional turmoil, it actually felt good to listen to.

Robin Thicke "Magic" – Video

Robin Thicke "Magic" – Video

So, I totally dig that Robin Thicke’s new song “Magic” has a total 70s, pimpy type of feel to it but I’m not feeling the video which fails in its’ attempt to be cool in a retro way.  Oh well.  What’s important is that Robin sounds pretty great on this track (he’s got such a hot falsetto – I love it!).
Here’s a little bit of Robin Thicke trivia for you.  Not only did he go on tour opening for Beyonce during her “Beyonce Experience Tour” but he’s also the son of actor, Alan Thicke.  Alan is probably best known for …read more

Crash Parallel "Rain Delays" – Video

Crash Parallel "Rain Delays" – Video

I almost really like “Rain Delays” by Crash Parallel.  The problem I have with it is that it almost has the same chords as Sarah McLachlan’s “Building a Mystery” which annoys me (the only real time I actually looked up and thought “well that’s interesting” was during the bridge) but I like the lyrics quite a bit.  However, I do prefer their other single “World We Know” better.

Canadian Music Flashback: Roch Voisine "I’ll Always Be There"

Canadian Music Flashback: Roch Voisine "I’ll Always Be There"

Acadian-Québécois singer-songwriter, Roch Voisine, has enjoyed great success in both the English and French-Canadian music markets.  Having grown up in Montreal, I feel kind of lucky to have benefited from hearing music in both of our official languages.  I also watched Roch on Television Quatres Saisons where he hosted the teen-geared variety show Top Jeunesse (1998) and also starred in the 1989 hockey drama Lance et compte (He Shoots, He Scores).  He has also won the 1994 Juno Award for “Male Vocalist of the Year” and was made an Officer of the Order of Canada in 1997.
His career really took …read more

Chad Michael Stewart "Hollow" – Video

Chad Michael Stewart "Hollow" – Video

Here’s the video for Chad Michael Stewart’s song “Hollow.”  Do you find that it sometimes sounds a bit like “What’s Left of Me” by Nick Lachey (you know, the single he released after his breakup with Jessica Simpson).  I almost like the song but there just isn’t enough of a structure or strong enough melody for me to really get into it.  I also think the mixing sounds a bit amateurish.  I’m all for indie music but it does need to sound like the song is, at least, finished.
Anyway, it ends with a great message and a plug for …read more

Sarah McLachlan Separating From Husband

Sarah McLachlan Separating From Husband

Here’s a bit of sad news.  Canadian singer, Sarah McLachlan, is separating from her husband, Ashwin Sood, after 11 years together.  Not only have their shared a home and two beautiful daughters, but Ashwin is also the drummer in her band.  I can’t imagine how hard this must be for her since, clearly, so much of their lives is intertwined.
As with most great artists, Sarah has put her feelings into words and two songs from her upcoming greatest hits album “Closer: The Best of Sarah McLachlan,” reflect the pain she’s been going through.
One track titled, “U Want Me …read more

Jully Black on Canadian Idol Finale

Jully Black on Canadian Idol Finale

Jully Black performed her single “Queen” on the Canadian Idol finale last night.  She looked absolutely gorgeous!  I feel so lucky to have her in the Canadian music industry because we are sorely lacking in terms of having many great soul singers.  On the few occasions where I was fortunate enough to be in the same circles with her, she’s always been gracious and acts pretty much the same was she does on television.  Can ya tell I love her?

There’s a bit of footage about one of the Idol contestants before she performs but here’s a video of her from …read more

Hedley Sings "Old School" on Canadian Idol Finale

Hedley Sings "Old School" on Canadian Idol Finale

Did you see Hedley on the Canadian Idol finale last night?  They performed their song “Old School” and, as usual, it was a great performance.  I’m still not completely sold on Jacob Hoggard’s facial hair and scruffy look but I still love him so much.  He will always be one of my favourite Idol contestants ever!
Check out the video of the band’s performance here:
