Canadian singer, Alanis Morrissette, made an appearance on Rosie Live last night.  The show, created by Rosie O’Donnell, was supposed to be a throwback to the old variety shows that we used to love (think Sonny & Cher).  I haven’t read one good review and I’m disappointed to say that my PVR didn’t record it and I can’t find many videos online yet.
Apparently, Alanis sang "a song referencing the 12 Steps in front of… an endless loop of geese flying through a sunset."  Wow… That sounds very unfortunate (yikes!).  If I find a video, I’ll …read more

Nickelback Says Put Down Guitar Hero, Pick Up a Guitar

Nickelback Says Put Down Guitar Hero, Pick Up a Guitar

Nickelback frontman, Chad Kroeger, is urging people to put down video games like Guitar Hero in favor of doing the real thing in real life.  He recently said: "start rock bands.  Set down the ‘Guitar Hero’ learn how to play an actual guitar and start a band, because it’s hard to find more bands to put a solid rock-and-roll package together."
I know what he means.  I love GH, don’t get me wrong, but the musical journey and understanding cannot start and stop there.  I’m hoping these games pique the interests of young people and inspire them to want to …read more

David Foster and Katharine McPhee on The View

David Foster and Katharine McPhee on The View

David Foster was on The View earlier this week where he accompanied former American Idol finalist, Katharine McPhee, on the piano as she sang "Somewhere Over the Rainbow."  David, of course, was great but I was not overly impressed with her vocals.  I am not completely sure what he sees in her.  I think her timing is weird (although, it has improved since her days on Idol), she lacks control and she is just so over-the-top.  I like the tone of her voice but that’s really about it.
The pair worked together on David Foster and Friends which is now …read more

Russell Peters to Host 2009 Juno Awards

Russell Peters to Host 2009 Juno Awards

Russell Peters will be returning to his hosting duties as he has been tapped for next year’s Juno Awards which are being held in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Most viewers found the Canadian comedian very funny at last year’s awards show (his material was co-written by Trevor Boris and Deborah Diogivanni who you may know best from MTV Canada’s Video on Trial).  His appearance was not without controversy, however.
In this picture, I am at far right, Russel is in the middle and you will see a young boy in the far left corner.  While the show was broadcasting, Russell made …read more

Nickelback Releases "Dark Horse" Album

Nickelback Releases "Dark Horse" Album

Alberta rockers, Nickelback, have released a new album called "Dark Horse."
The first single is "Gotta Be Somebody" which is good but I think there are better tracks on the album.
The songs, well, sound like what you would expect from Nickelback but I think they are really good.   I really like "Burn It to the Ground" and "Just to Get High" a lot (the latter had a really good message about drug use).
Here is the tracklisting:

Something In Your Mouth
Burn It To The Ground
Gotta Be Somebody
I’d Come For You
Next Go Round
Just To Get High

Finger Eleven Touring with Kid Rock

Finger Eleven Touring with Kid Rock

Finger Eleven will be opening for Kid Rock while he embarks on his European tour.  The Canadian rock group, who you may know best from their smash hit “Paralyzer,” which is officially the18th most downloaded song in history (can you believe that!?).  I think that, if you happen to be near one of their tour stops, you should check them out (you can ignore Kid Rock, if you want – that’s what I would do!).  I saw them at the Calgary Stampede this past year and they were incredible!
Here are the currently announced tour dates:

November 29th: Dublin, Olympia Theatre

Stompin’ Tom Releases 50th Album!

Stompin’ Tom Releases 50th Album!

The Canadian music legend, Stompin’ Tom Connors, has released his 50th album and I just think that is a remarkable achievement.  I don’t know if I can do 50 pushups but this man has managed to make that many records.
His latest, The Ballad of Stompin’ Tom, features 16 tracks (12 new) which focus mostly on what it’s like to be a Canadian.  Gotta love that!  It also includes freshly recorded versions of old classics like “The Hockey Song,” “My Hockey Mom” and “The Olympic Song.”
The Ballad of Stompin’ Tom Tracklisting:1.  The Olympic Song                                                                       2.  The Hockey Song            …read more

Erik Mongrain Releases "Equilibrium" Album

Erik Mongrain Releases "Equilibrium" Album

Have you heard Erik Mongrain’s music?  His unique and distinctive lap tapping guitar work is just incredible (and I’m proud to say that he hails from Montreal, Quebec – my original hometown!).  There’s a real emotion to his playing that I immediately connect to.  It’s really special!
Last week, he released his second album Equilibrium and I’m sure it’s fantastic.  To learn more about the album and listen to clips, visit the On Target Media website.  I love the cover art (see below) too.  If I get my hands on a copy, I will definitely review it here.
