Ashley MacIsaac Selling Future on eBay

by Jeanne Dupuis on July 2nd, 2008

I don’t even know what to make of this story.  Fiddler, Ashley MacIsaac, enjoyed a meteoric rise to fame a little more than a decade ago with his single “Sleepy Maggie” (still one of my favorite Canadian tracks of all time).  He declared personal bankruptcy back in 2000 and I’m guessing he hasn’t really recovered from that since he’s seeking an investor on eBay to give him $1.5 million in exchange for half of his future earnings.

“I’m 33, I have at least a good 40 years of earning power ahead of me and I think it’s (C$1.5 million) a reasonable starting point… I’m not David Bowie, I’m not Madonna, I’m not Eminem, I’m Ashley MacIsaac, so to set a price at that (C$1.5 million), I thought, was fair market value,” he said.

Can you say ouch?!  I hope it all works out for Ashley.  In the meantime, here’s the video for “Sleepy Maggie.”
