Sloan "Believe in Me" – Video

Sloan "Believe in Me" – Video

Sloan’s “Believe in Me” from their album Parallel Play is a real throw back to classic rock (anybody think the guitar chords kind of sound like the melody for “Satisfaction?”).  Even the video makes me feel like I’m back in the 80s eating a Fruit Roll Up and watching a video while I wait for Mr. Dress Up to come on.  Good thing I really loved the cheesy ass music and videos from that time because I think this video is super cool.

Barenaked Ladies Singer Arrested For Drugs

Barenaked Ladies Singer Arrested For Drugs

I am totally shocked (and slightly appalled and saddened) by the news that Barenaked Ladies lead singer, Steven Page, has been arrested for drug possession in New York state.  He apparently was found with cocaine and marijuana alongside two women!
His agent is said to be confident that he’ll be cleared.  I certainly hope so.  He will make his first court appearance on July 17, 2008.
Well, may as well watch a BNL video since I’m talking about them.  Here’s “One Week:”

Wintersleep "Oblivion" – Video

Wintersleep "Oblivion" – Video

I’m kind of digging “Oblivion,” the latest track from their current album “Welcome to the Night Sky” from Halifax-based indie-rock band, Wintersleep.  The way he pronounces “oblivion” threw me a bit at first (it could almost sound like he’s saying “up live beyond”) but it’s part of the charm.  There isn’t a whole lot of singing in it but the tune is great.  Watch the video:

Finger Eleven "Paralyzes" Calgary Stampede

Finger Eleven "Paralyzes" Calgary Stampede

Finger Eleven were amazing the other night at the Calgary Stampede.  I had forgotten how much I loved their music and it was a great trip down memory lane.  Lead singer, Scott Anderson, was really incredible – his voice was clear and even better live than recorded.  They gave a kick-ass performance of Paralyzer which, of course, drove the crowd insane.
The only distraction were the body surfers.  Seriously, if you are going to body surf, don’t do it at the Calgary Stampede.  That’s just lame – the crowd isn’t really into it and then people get hurt.  I saw …read more

Bedouin Soundclash "12:59 Lullaby" Video

I’ve seen the video for Bedouin Soundclash’s song “12:59 Lullaby” a few times but I just really, really love it.  I love the song and I think the video is great.  It’s a little rough to the rest of the band that they can’t be in it since lead singer, Jay Malinowski, has to be “lonely.”

Who is your favorite member of Bedouin Soundclash?  I have to admit that I really like the drummer, Pat Pengelly.

Hedley Plays Through the Rain at Stampede

Hedley Plays Through the Rain at Stampede

Wow… okay, first of all, let me just say that I wish I had better pictures.  Right before Hedley took to the stage, it started lightning and then it just plain out started pouring.  I had neither an umbrella nor a protective thing for my camera so I had to find a windowed area inside a nearby building and I’m not even going to tell you how bad that was (people were grumpy – let’s leave it at that).
Now for the good news!  Hedley didn’t seem bothered at all by the rain.  In fact, they played right through it …read more

The Trews Left Me "Yearning" at Stampede

The Trews Left Me "Yearning" at Stampede

I went to see The Trews perform last night at the Calgary Stampede and I was completely impressed by them.  The crowd was… happy by the time they took the stage.  I spotted empty bottles of Smirnoff and Captain Morgan all over the place which resulted in, if you can imagine, what felt like a barroom atmosphere in the open air.  Very weird… There were many body surfers being passed around – one guy even had a lit lighter going as he coasted over people’s heads.  People were digging the show, though, and that’s all that seemed to matter …read more

Faber Drive Rocks Out at Calgary Stampede

Faber Drive Rocks Out at Calgary Stampede

I went to the Faber Drive concert last night at the Calgary Stampede and I was really blown away. Their energy was incredible!  It can be so tough when you are on an outdoor stage competing with the sounds of carnival rides and games but I practically forgot I was even at the Stampede.  It was great.
Of course, they performed songs from their debut album “Seven Second Surgery” like “Second Chance” and a truly excellent version of “When I’m With You.”
Lead singer, Dave Faber, also told the crowd that the band will be filming a video with Canadian Idol …read more

Theory of a Deadman "So Happy" – Video

I really love “So Happy” by Theory of a Deadman.  I had the opportunity to meet the group during the 2008 Juno Awards and they were extremely cool so it’s only made me like them even more.  The house in this video is sick!  Check it out:
