David Foster was on The View earlier this week where he accompanied former American Idol finalist, Katharine McPhee, on the piano as she sang "Somewhere Over the Rainbow." David, of course, was great but I was not overly impressed with her vocals. I am not completely sure what he sees in her. I think her […]

David Foster is one of my favorite Canadians celebrities. I think the man is gifted beyond words and has not only done much to showcase the talent in our nation but he has contributed to the richness of music around the world.
He, along with some major stars, created a once-in-a-lifetime experience which you can now […]

Have you heard Erik Mongrain’s music? His unique and distinctive lap tapping guitar work is just incredible (and I’m proud to say that he hails from Montreal, Quebec - my original hometown!). There’s a real emotion to his playing that I immediately connect to. It’s really special!
Last week, he released his second album Equilibrium […]

Vancouver-based, TheFreshPage, has announced the first-ever contest where the winner will be crowned "Canada’s Best DJ." Like the contest page says, I agree that it’s time for Canadian DJs to get some love and recognition (I love Samantha Ronson and those other peeps but I want some maple leaf flavor!).
Votes will be accepted […]

The video below is for "Being Here" by The Stills. The group’s newest album was named after this single’s title and released this year. I like the lyrics to the song and the video is interesting.

After CBC lost the Hockey Night in Canada theme to CTV (honestly, it completely broke my heart - it’s like our country’s second national anthem!), they created the “Hockey Anthem Challenge” in hopes of finding the next great theme song. Have you entered a song or found a favorite? If so, I want to […]

I have been reading reports about the federal government cutting $20-million in funding to the DFAIT administered program PromArt (Promotional Arts) and the Department of Canadian Heritage administered program Trade Routes.
The cuts are supposed to take place on March 31, 2009.
I think that, if this goes through, it would be on of […]

Ed Robertson was in a float-plane crash in southeastern Ontario! He and three others survived after the craft plummeted into trees. According to the Ontario police, the plane lost speed on take off and went […]

I started this blog a month ago because I feel like Canadian music needs a little more recognition. There aren’t a lot of sites or blogs on the subject and that left me a little frustrated. That was, until, I realized a few things.
I get more readers on days when I write about people who […]

I don’t even know what to make of this story. Fiddler, Ashley MacIsaac, enjoyed a meteoric rise to fame a little more than a decade ago with his single “Sleepy Maggie” (still one of my favorite Canadian tracks of all time). He declared personal bankruptcy back in 2000 and I’m guessing he hasn’t really recovered […]
