Take 2004’s “Try,” for example, from her album Whoa, Nelly! This isn’t my favourite version of this song but it’s still a lot more honest and beautiful than the stuff she’s making now.  What I love is how this song almost starts like it’s going to be acoustic then slowly builds and the emotion is undeniable.  How many times have you felt like all you could do is try?  I can’t even count and there truly were times when this song was popular that I would hear it and feel comforted.  I’ve remembered over the years for that very reason.  All I will remember about her newer songs like “Promiscuous Girl” will be how much they make me miss the old Nelly.  Come back to Canada!

Now, I have heard that a new game called “Celebrity Sports Showdown” is ready to make its’ debut and it features famous people playing a variety of sports.  Our very own Avril Lavigne is featured playing badminton, for example.  Some of the other stars include Keith Urban, Fergie, Paul Pierce and Mia Hamm (I’m guessing she plays volleyball in the game?  Just a guess…).

*update – I hear that Nelly Furtado is also in the game but I’m not sure what she does.  Sounds like a lot of fun!

The artists were allowed to interpret a Lennon song in any way that they chose – Nelly Furtado sang “Instant Karma with Dave Stewart, Alanis performed “Dear Prudence” and Rufus sang “This Boy” with Sean Lennon and Robert Schwartzman and then “Across the Universe” again with Sean, along with Moby.  Watch that performance now:

British Columbian singer, Nelly Furtado, has revealed that she was secretly married this past summer to her fiancé of one year, Demacio Castellon.  Apparently, the couple were wedded on July 19, 2008.   "I just feel kind of free and relaxed and more in tune with trying not to be so stressed out," she told Entertainment Tonight. "[I'm] trying to enjoy things a little more.  I’m happy…I’m excited about the future."

That sounds like a good plan, especially in the early stages of marriage.  I wish her all the best and hope that her 4-year-old daughter, Nevis (dad is DJ and producer Jasper "Lil’ Jaz" Gahunia) is also happy.
