Rufus Wainwright Nominated for Grammy

I am so happy (SO HAPPY!) for Rufus Wainwright, who has been nominated for a Grammy award in the "Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album."

The Canadian icon is up against some pretty stiff competition (Still Unforgettable – Natalie Cole, The Sinatra Project – Michael Feinstein, Noël – Josh Groban and In The Swing Of Christmas – Barry Manilow) but I’m confident that he’s got a good chance.

I’ve got a major love affair going on with Rufus this year so I will be eagerly awaiting the Grammy Awards this year! If you need proof of why Rufus is so amazing, check out his video for "Going to a Town."

Canadians Pay Tribute to John Lennon

Canadian singers, Nelly Furtado, Alanis Morissette and Rufus Wainwright are appearing on a tribute DVD called “Come Together: A Night for John Lennon’s Words & Music” to pay respect to the former Beatle. It was filmed back in 2001, just weeks after the horrific September 11 terrorist attacks and proceeds from the event, which was filmed at New York’s Radio City Music Hall, were donated to the recovery efforts.

The artists were allowed to interpret a Lennon song in any way that they chose – Nelly Furtado sang “Instant Karma with Dave Stewart, Alanis performed “Dear Prudence” and Rufus sang “This Boy” with Sean Lennon and Robert Schwartzman and then “Across the Universe” again with Sean, along with Moby. The DVD is now on sale and the proceeds will go to the Robin Hood Foundation. Here’s the list of performances – sounds like a good DVD to buy!

Rufus Wainwright – "Going to a Town" Video

I don’t always like Rufus Wainwright, as a person, since his mouth tends to run but he is a phenomenal artist. This song “Going to a Town” (title track from his album) is so hauntingly beautiful that it really took me by surprise. The chords aren’t all that novel – in fact, they are pretty straight forward and standard but it’s the singing that really sets it apart. He doesn’t try too hard but the emotion is there and it’s just right. He shows that it doesn’t have to be “in your face” to get a point across.
