Dr. Dre on Remix of Kardinal Offishall’s "Set it Off"

Kardinal Offishall’s “Set it Off” was already a hit but new life has been breathed into the hot track with the remix featuring raps by Dr. Dre and Clipse’s Pusha-T.
According to Chart Attack, the remix was supposed to be released earlier this year but was pushed back along with Dre’s long-awaited album Detox.

Canadian Idol Cancelled for 2009 Season

Canadian Idol Cancelled for 2009 Season

Canadian Idol has been cancelled for 2009.  According to the National Post, CTV released the following statement:“as a result of the current economic climate, production of Canadian Idol will rest for the 2009 year.”
Wow!  That’s huge news and, of course, a terrible sign for the Canadian economy.  I hope it comes back as other Idol shows have done who have taken a year off in the past (Germany, Russia and the Netherlands, for example).

2009 Canadian Radio Awards Nominations

The nominees for the 2009 Canadian Radio Awards have been announced.  Fans will be able to use an online voting system to cast ballots for their favorite in the "Fan’s Choice" category.
I am torn between Hedley and Theory of a Deadman… actually, Finger Eleven looks like a good choice too.  Argh!  How great is that, though?  When making a decision is tough, you know it’s been a good year in Canadian music.
It’s also cool to see so many former Canadian Idol contestants nominated.  Carly Rae Jepsen is nominated for "Sunshine on my Shoulders," which is a nice …read more

Hit Man: David Foster and Friends CD Review

Hit Man: David Foster and Friends CD Review

I had a really tough day – nothing went horrifically wrong but you know what I mean.  It’s almost the end of the work week, it’s the holiday season (so my thoughts alternate between shopping, cooking and my budget) and with the end of 2008 fast-approaching, it just feels like life is speeding ahead at an alarming pace.
I got a copy of Hit Man: David Foster and Friends the other day and I really wanted to just sit down and get another album review "over with" (it is work after all).
Thank goodness I put this CD on …read more

Canadian singer, Alanis Morrissette, made an appearance on Rosie Live last night.  The show, created by Rosie O’Donnell, was supposed to be a throwback to the old variety shows that we used to love (think Sonny & Cher).  I haven’t read one good review and I’m disappointed to say that my PVR didn’t record it and I can’t find many videos online yet.
Apparently, Alanis sang "a song referencing the 12 Steps in front of… an endless loop of geese flying through a sunset."  Wow… That sounds very unfortunate (yikes!).  If I find a video, I’ll …read more

David Foster and Katharine McPhee on The View

David Foster and Katharine McPhee on The View

David Foster was on The View earlier this week where he accompanied former American Idol finalist, Katharine McPhee, on the piano as she sang "Somewhere Over the Rainbow."  David, of course, was great but I was not overly impressed with her vocals.  I am not completely sure what he sees in her.  I think her timing is weird (although, it has improved since her days on Idol), she lacks control and she is just so over-the-top.  I like the tone of her voice but that’s really about it.
The pair worked together on David Foster and Friends which is now …read more

Nickelback Releases "Dark Horse" Album

Nickelback Releases "Dark Horse" Album

Alberta rockers, Nickelback, have released a new album called "Dark Horse."
The first single is "Gotta Be Somebody" which is good but I think there are better tracks on the album.
The songs, well, sound like what you would expect from Nickelback but I think they are really good.   I really like "Burn It to the Ground" and "Just to Get High" a lot (the latter had a really good message about drug use).
Here is the tracklisting:

Something In Your Mouth
Burn It To The Ground
Gotta Be Somebody
I’d Come For You
Next Go Round
Just To Get High

Stompin’ Tom Releases 50th Album!

Stompin’ Tom Releases 50th Album!

The Canadian music legend, Stompin’ Tom Connors, has released his 50th album and I just think that is a remarkable achievement.  I don’t know if I can do 50 pushups but this man has managed to make that many records.
His latest, The Ballad of Stompin’ Tom, features 16 tracks (12 new) which focus mostly on what it’s like to be a Canadian.  Gotta love that!  It also includes freshly recorded versions of old classics like “The Hockey Song,” “My Hockey Mom” and “The Olympic Song.”
