Michael seems to be taking it in stride.  Of being chosen for the cover, he said "I don’t see myself as someone who’s as important as Trudeau or as prolific as Wayne Gretzky."

Is it the crooner’s pouty lips?  His impish grin?  Maybe those soulful eyes?  Could be all of the above since the issue honors the "Men We Love."  Sounds great already!

So, does Michael subscribe to Chatelaine?  "I’m not a big magazine guy" he admits, so I’m guess that’s a "no."

Jully Black performed her single “Queen” on the Canadian Idol finale last night.  She looked absolutely gorgeous!  I feel so lucky to have her in the Canadian music industry because we are sorely lacking in terms of having many great soul singers.  On the few occasions where I was fortunate enough to be in the same circles with her, she’s always been gracious and acts pretty much the same was she does on television.  Can ya tell I love her?

Jully Black was spotted at eTalk’s party during the 2008 Toronto International Film Festival on at the CTV headquarters.  The Canadian Idol contributor was looking gorgeous on the red carpet Friday night.  Anyone watching the Idol finale tonight?  I’m live blogging about it!

Doesn’t Sarah McLachlan look beautiful at the BC 150 Festival???  I just love her!  Haven’t seen enough of her lately, though.  Again, I didn’t get to go to the event but I heard she was great!  Check out these pictures!

R&B singer, Estelle, was in Toronto, Ontario this past week for the MLS All-Star game.  It brought out other celebrities including Rachel McAdams and Drew Carey.  Have you ever heard Estelle’s duet “American Boy” with Kanye West.  Click here to watch the video on Hip Hop Roll.  I love the song because it’s really smooth and has a real European influence (she’s French, I believe) but it also has a touch of a Kanye-style hip hop groove.

Jully Black was incredible last night at the Calgary Stampede.  Her show was earlier than most of the “big acts” I’ve seen this week and it was the first non-rock show on the Coca-Cola Stage but it didn’t matter.  Her dedicated audience was there waiting for her well before the show even began.  That was something else that was different also.  While acts like Hedley and Faber Drive and, well, basically every other band this week attracted mostly younger fans, Jully’s crowd consisted of all types of people – young, old, different cultural backgrounds, etc… It was so nice to see and it speaks volumes about the kind of artist she really is.

Right off the bat, Jully got things going and before I knew it, I was moving and grooving so much I was barely paying attention to much else.  I was a fan – not a reporter, not a blogger but a fan!  Her backup singers deserve special mention too.  Those women were incredible – their singing, their movements, their exchanges were just so on point that I can’t even explain it.  They were really together and the band was just as good.  This was a group of people who love performing together and it showed.  I enjoyed the songs that I didn’t know just as much as hits like “Sweat From Your Brow” and “Seven Day Fool.”  It really was a great show.

I’ve had the fortune of meeting her at the 2008 Juno Awards and now again at the Stampede and she’s just as sweet as you would imagine.  Here are some pictures (click to enlarge):

Natasha Bedingfield was great last night when she stepped on to the Coca-Cola Stage at the Calgary Stampede.  The audience showed some love as she began the set with some lesser-known songs but when she broke into hits like “These Words,” “Unwritten” and the new “Love Like This,” the crowd erupted into cheers.  It was a more subdued concert than I’ve seen all week at the Stampede since, unlike with bands like Finger Eleven and Lifehouse, there was no moshing and certainly no body surfing.  It was a nice change (even though I like the other stuff too).

She was really into performing and, at one point, she yelled “I’ve never performed for so many cowboys in my life!”  Well, welcome to Stampede, Natasha!  I hope she enjoyed herself – it looks like she did since, by the end of the show, she had a cowboy hat on herself.

Finger Eleven were amazing the other night at the Calgary Stampede.  I had forgotten how much I loved their music and it was a great trip down memory lane.  Lead singer, Scott Anderson, was really incredible – his voice was clear and even better live than recorded.  They gave a kick-ass performance of Paralyzer which, of course, drove the crowd insane. 

The only distraction were the body surfers.  Seriously, if you are going to body surf, don’t do it at the Calgary Stampede.  That’s just lame – the crowd isn’t really into it and then people get hurt.  I saw so many people getting carried out and I just think it’s a waste.
