Vancouver’s BIG JOHN BATES has an all-new band, album, video and style and is embarking on a 7-country tour. The change from rockabilly and burlesque into Americana/rock evokes things rustic, dark and southern. This month, they’re playing in Canada from St. John’s Newfoundland to Vancouver, BC between October 18 and November 4 before taking off to Europe.
The new album “Battered Bones” follows the Headless Fowl EP released on Alternative Tentacles. The new band is a 4 piece incorporating tympani, tuba and bowed upright bass. The new album and EP were mixed and mastered by Robert Ferbrache (Slim Cessna, Woben Hand) and produced by Todd Simko from Pure.
In 1990, John Bates co-wrote the first two critically-acclaimed albums for legendary Canadian metal band Annihilator. In the 2000’s, Big John Bates & the Voodoo Dollz was the first touring rock band to incorporate burlesque into the show, releasing four albums, two DVDs and playing over a thousand shows including 10 tours of Europe.
